FORMER DANIEL ROBERTSON BRICKWORKS - STATION STREET NUNAWADING

There is a live permit to allow the developer to construct 173 dwellings as well as a large area of public open space fronting Station Street, as well as retaining a preserving the smokestack / chimney which has heritage value. Those that know the history of the area will be aware Nunawading had a long history of brick and tile making using material from nearby quarries. Many of the early homes in the area were built from bricks and teracotta tiles made in Nunawading.  The former Daniel Robertsons Brickworks sold in about 2014 and sat vacant until late 2021 when work started to develop approved Stage 1 plans on the site.
As at 8 September 2023 there has been quite a bit of activity on the site with posters up displaying sales information and a site office and sales office being installed.

ALWYN STREET MITCHAM

Council resolved in September 2021 to write the Department of Transport requesting permission to install a truck ban and speed limit reduction for Alwyn Street Mitcham.  This followed a resident petition in September 2020 with these two points included, among others.  There is a history of incidents involving large trucks using the street as a rat run between Rooks Road and Mitcham Road and causing damage to street trees and other property as a result.   I was successful in including funding for the installation of three speed humps along Alywn Street,  to be installed by the end of 2023.

STATE GOVERNMENT BIG HOUSING BUILD

Regarding the former RSL site at 26-32 McDowall Street, Mitcham :

Homes Victoria have confirmed that a funding application by Community Housing Ltd at 26-32 McDowall Street, Mitcham (comprising 61 dwellings) has been funded through the Big Housing Build. This property has a live planning permit for a three storey apartment building with 61 dwellings. It is understood that the intent of this development will be used to provide the social housing.

Whitehorse has been identified as a priority municipality in regard to the funding of appropriate initiatives through the Big Housing Build because of the very low number of social housing we have in the municipality, along with low number of affordable private rentals.
